![]() |
The Commission of Mineral and Thermal Waters (CMTW) is one of the statutory bodies of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) one of the most growing, non-profit, worldwide organization which associates the groundwaters specialists of all kinds.
The members are mostly hydrogeologists specializing in hydrogeochemistry and hydrogeothermics, and a majority work in various governmental and private agencies which deal with mineral and thermal waters. The clear objectives of the Commission are serving the professional assistance in the field of mineral (medicinal) and thermal waters, an investigation and management of their resources, their ecological and economical usage as well as legislation. The Commission is pretending to be the international consultative and advisory body for managers and decision-makers in the field of mineral and thermal water utilization, who do not have to be (and usually are not) connected with hydrogeology but require the professional and independent assistance. The regular, annual meetings of the Commission are organized by individual members in their respective countries. Meetings of the Commission have the two crucial targets: first of all they give the participants the opportunity not only to exchange views and ideas but also to become acquainted with specific hydrogeological problems in various countries; secondly they try to approach the work of the Commission in the light of international consultative agenda for local authorities and decision-makers in the field of mineral and thermal water utilization.
